 Twelve-year-old Edith faces an uncertain future as she is forced to leave behind her family to escape to the United States.   In 1938, her family is the last remaining Jewish family in their small German village, and threats of violence make it necessary for her to travel to live with an uncle in Chicago.   She faces great challenges as she arrives in Chicago and realizes that her uncle's wife and daughter do not want her their.  Her difficulty in adjusting to life in a new country only get worse as war breaks out, making her a target once again as well as bringing fears about the safety of the family she left behind in Germany.  

I think this book will be a good choice for readers who enjoy historical fiction, especially those who are interested in stories that take place during World War II.
