A Home for Bird

A Home for Bird
by Philip C. Stead

Vernon the toad is very excited about his new friend Bird!  He eagerly introduces him to his friends and shows him his favorite places.  However, he becomes concerned that Bird never says anything.   Thinking that Bird misses his home, Vernon begins a journey to find his new friend a home.   Determined to make his friend happy, Vernon brings Bird to many different potential homes until he finally succeeds in finding the right place.

This is a sweet, funny story of home and friendship.   While I certainly loved the story, the bright and colorful illustrations were my favorite part.     Those who pay close attention to the pictures will immediately realize why Bird isn't speaking!   I plan to use this as a read aloud and combine it with a discussion on bird homes.
